SIMENON SIMENON.  MAIGRET  E L'AFFITTACAMERE" IN INGLESE ARRIVA IL 3 NOVEMBRE
Alcuni particolari sulla prossima traduzione della Penguin per il mercato anglofono

Maigret Takes Room, Penguin’s English translation of Simenon’s Maigret en meublé, will be available through Amazon.uk as of November 3, 2016. Both paperback and Kindle editions are expected. Preorder options already exist, so one does not have to ‘wait’ to get onboard. The prices are £7.99 and £4.99. The opportunity for delivery to the USA and Canada will appeal to some because inquiries to Penguin and Amazon to find out when the book will be available in the two countries have been non-productive. Judging from the past record on previous books in the series, it is likely to be many months.
In contrast, this time at least, November 3rd is the release date for all the other sources worldwide, listed here in alphabetical order by country: Australia KindleBrazil Kindle; China paperback; France paperback and Kindle; Germany paperback and Kindle; India Kindle; Italy paperback and Kindle; Japan paperback and Kindle; Mexico Kindle; Netherlands Kindle; Spain Kindle. (An audio version from Audible.com is not yet visible on the horizon.)
Maigret en meublé originally appeared in 1951, but the English translation Maigret Takes a Room did not first appear until 1960. Its translator was Robert Brain then, and now the translator is Shaun Whiteside. Be aware the ISBN-13 for this new edition is 978-0241206843. This work is the 65th in Simenon’s original order of publication and the 37th in Penguin’s modern series of translations.
I enjoyed this book in particular for some unusual features: 1) One of Maigret’s closest working associates is gunned down during a stakeout. 2) The Chief Inspector takes over as the frontline investigator. 3) Madame Maigret makes no appearance in this story at all. 4) Maigret moves into the targeted boarding house. 5) The shooter extracts a special promise from Maigret, turns himself in, and confesses to other earlier crimes as well. Although forced to arrest him, Maigret does so with great reluctancethis being an example of a familiar posture.

  1. In fact, to be quite accurate,if MMe Maigret doesn't appear in person in the novel, she's nevertheless present in a way: Maigret evokes her in his thoughts, and he has several phone calls with her. And you could say that Mlle Clément is a kind of substitute to Mme Maigret: see this text here: http://www.trussel.com/maig/mommeu.htm.
