3) Quand Simenon avait 30 ans… 

En 1933, année des 30 ans du romancier, c’est un Simenon voyageur qui apparaît. L’année précédente, il avait accompli un voyage en Afrique, et, en février 1933, il va faire un tour de l’Europe en crise : Belgique, Allemagne, Lituanie, Pologne, Tchécoslovaquie, Roumanie, Hongrie, Bulgarie et Yougoslavie. En un mois de voyage, il récolte de quoi écrire plusieurs reportages : « Europe 33 », « Peuples qui ont faim ». Et en mai, il repart pour la Turquie et une croisière en Mer Noire, qui l’amène jusqu’en Ukraine et en Géorgie, puis il rencontrera Trotski en juin. Ce voyage lui inspirera le roman Les Gens d’en face.

Nel 1933, anni dei 30 anni del romanziere, quello che si nota è una Simenon viaggiatore. L'anno precedente aveva compiuto un viaggio in Africa e in febbraio 1933, inizia un tour dell'Europa in crisi: Belgio, Germania, Lituania, Polonia, Cecoslovacchia, Romania, Ungheria, Bulgaria e Yugoslavia. In un mese di viaggio raccoglierà materiale per scrivere numerosi reportage: "Europa 33", "Popoli che hanno fame". E a maggio riparte per la Turchia e per una crociera nel Mar Nero che lo porterà fino in Ukraina e in Georgia, in seguito, a giugno, incontrerà Trotsky. Questo viaggio gli ispirerà il romanzo

3) When Simenon was 30 years old…

In 1933, when Simenon was 30, he appeared as a traveller. The year before he had completed a trip to Africa and in February 1933 he went on a tour of Europe in crisis: Belgium, Germany, Lithuania, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria and Yugoslavia. Travelling for a month, he collected enough to write several reports: “Europe 33”, “Peuples qui ont faim”. And in May he left for Turkey and a cruise in the Black Sea, which brought him to Ukraine and Georgia, and then he would meet Trotski in June. This trip would inspire him the novel The Window over the Way.
