For the 90th anniversary of his birth, the Chief Inspector shows us his memory book. We propose a fortnight column to commemorate this milestone event of this year 2019.
• C’était au milieu des années 1950. Simenon était venu me rendre visite à Meung-sur-Loire, et m’avait parlé d’un projet de film avec son ami Jean Gabin. L’acteur devait interpréter un commissaire de la P.J., donc moi… Simenon était enthousiaste, et finalement, j’ai dit « pourquoi pas ? »… Après tout, me voir dans la peau d’un des plus grands acteurs français, c’était plutôt flatteur…
• Fu intorno agli anni '50. Simenon era venuto a trovarmi a Meung-sur-Loire, e mi aveva parlato di un progetto di un film con Jean Gabin. L'attore doveva interpretare un commissario della P.J., cioè me ... Simenon era entusiasta e alla fine io dissi "perché no?".... Dopo tutto, vedermi nella pelle di uno dei più grandi attori francesi, era piuttosto gratificante...
• It was in the middle of the ‘50s. Simenon had come to visit me at Meung-sur-Loire, and he had talked about a film project with his friend Jean Gabin. The actor would interpret a Chief Inspector of the P.J., that is to say me… Simenon was enthusiastic and finally I said “why not?”… After all, seeing me in the shoes of one of the greatest French actors was rather flattering…
