SIMENON SIMENON. ET SI ON FETAIT NOEL COMME MAIGRET ? 

Pour cette journée de fête, nous vous proposons un "Noël à la manière de Maigret" 

  

D'abord, on déciderait de faire la grasse matinée, même si d'avance on saurait qu'on ne pourrait pas rester dans son lit si longtemps que cela. Et puis, un rêve émouvant aurait fini par nous réveiller. On se serait levé, et on aurait trouvé sur la table une tasse de café à l'arôme appétissant. On aurait grignoté un ou deux croissants croustillants, tout en regardant par la fenêtre les flocons transformer petit à petit les trottoirs en un beau tapis blanc.

Puis on aurait ouvert ses cadeaux, en retrouvant l'excitation de son enfance devant les surprises. Ensuite, on aurait traîné en robe de chambre, se réchauffant les mains devant la cheminée, et on aurait allumé quelques bougies sur le sapin de Noël, venu tout droit d'Alsace. Tout l'appartement aurait été envahi de délicieux parfums: la bonne odeur du rôti en train de cuire, et les senteurs de cannelle et d'orange.  

Après le repas, et une petite sieste dans son fauteuil confortable, on serait sorti pour se promener dans les rues, et on aurait aimé voir les gens sourire devant les étalages, les lumières des guirlandes, et la musique des chants de Noël diffusée par des haut-parleurs. 

Après avoir bu un thé et mangé quelques pâtisseries, on serait allé au cinéma pour voir un bon vieux western, puis on serait rentré tranquillement chez soi, et on aurait dégusté un dernier verre de prunelle avant d'aller se coucher.

SIMENON SIMENON. E SE FESTEGGIAMO NATALE COME MAIGRET ? 

Per questo giorno festivo, vi proponiamo un "Natale nello stile di Maigret" 

Dapprima avremmo deciso di fare un po’ di pigrizie tra le lenzuola, anche se si sa già che non  potremmo rimanere a letto così tanto tempo. E poi, un sogno emozionante avrebbe finito per svegliarci. Ci saremmo alzati, e avremmo trovato sulla tavola una tazza di caffé dall’aroma inebriante. Avremmo sbocconcellato uno o due cornetti croccanti, guardando fuori della finestra i fiocchi trasformare poco a poco i marciapiedi in un bel tappeto bianco.

Poi avremmo scartato i nostri regali, ritrovando l’eccitazione della nostra infanzia davanti alle sorprese. E poi avremmo acceso qualche candela sull’albero di Natale, venuto direttamente dall’Alsazia. Tutto l’appartamento sarebbe stato invaso da un delizioso profumo: il buon odore dell’arrosto in cottura, e gli aromi della cannella e dell’arancio.

Dopo il pranzo, una breve siesta nella poltrona comoda, e poi saremmo usciti per passeggiare nelle strade, dove ci saremmo rallegrati di vedere la gente sorridere davanti alla bancarelle, alle luci delle ghirlande, e alla musica dei canti di Natale diffusi dagli altoparlanti. 

Dopo aver bevuto un buon tè e gustato qualche pasticcino, saremmo andati al cinema per vedere un buon vecchio western, poi saremmo rientrati tranquillamente in casa, dove avremmo bevuto un ultimo bicchiere di prunella prima di coricarci.

 SIMENON SIMENON. HOW ABOUT CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS LIKE MAIGRET? 

For this festive day, we propose you a "Christmas in Maigret style" 

First of all, you would decide to sleep in, even if you would know beforehand that you couldn't stay in your bed as long as that. Then a moving dream would have eventually woken you up. You would have got up, and on the table you would have found a cup of tasty smelling coffee. You would have munched on one or two crispy croissants, while looking through the window, and you would have seen snowflakes gradually changing sidewalks into a beautiful white carpet.

Then you would have opened your presents, finding again your childhood excitement in front of surprises. And then you would have been hanging around in your dressing gown, warming your hands before the fireplace, and you would have lighted some candles on the Christmas tree from Alsace. The entire apartment would have been invaded by delicious scents: the good smell of a simmering roast, cinnamon and orange flavors.

After lunch, and a little nap in your comfortable armchair, you would have gone out for a walk in the streets, and you would have liked to see people smiling in front of displays, garland lights, and the music of Christmas carols broadcast by loudspeakers. 

After having drunk tea and eaten some pastries, you would have gone to the movies to see a good old western film, then you would have quietly got home, and you would have savored a last glass of sloe before going to bed.

Un choix de trois romans de la saga, sur un thème particulier 

Trois enquêtes de Noël 

On ne trouve, dans la saga, que deux enquêtes qui se passent en décembre. Peut-être parce que c'est une période plus calme, et que les gens, attendant la trêve de Noël, sont moins poussés à commettre des crimes ?! Ou alors, c'est Simenon lui-même qui répugnait à faire travailler son commissaire pendant cette période… Quoi qu'il en soit, pour faire bonne mesure, nous avons ajouté, aux deux enquêtes en question, une nouvelle qui se passe aussi autour de Noël, et où Maigret n'apparaît pas, mais qui, moyennant quelques adaptations, pourrait très bien faire partie de la saga…

"il y avait des guirlandes lumineuses d'un trottoir à l'autre, des sapins dorés ou argentés, des arbres de Noël dans les étalages. […] Il se demanda ce qu'il allait offrir à Mme Maigret mais il ne trouva rien." (Maigret et le marchand de vin) 

"il était un tout petit peu moins de minuit quand ils étaient rentrés, et ils n'avaient guère eu à attendre pour se donner les cadeaux. Une pipe pour lui, comme toujours. Pour elle, une cafetière électrique d'un modèle perfectionné dont elle avait envie, et, afin de rester fidèle à la tradition, une douzaine de mouchoirs finement brodés." (Un Noël de Maigret)

Tre inchieste di Natale 

Nella serie si trovano solamente due indagini che si svolgono a dicembre. Forse perché é un periodo più tranquillo, in cui la gente, aspettando la pausa del Natale, è meno spinta a commettere dei crimini?! O invece è Simenon stesso cui ripugna far lavorare il suo commissario proprio durante questo periodo… Sia come sia, per far numero, abbiamo aggiunto, alle due inchieste in questione, anche una che si svolge sempre intorno a Natale, dove Maigret non appare, ma la quale facendole qualche concessione, potrebbe far benissimo parte della serie…

«c’erano delle ghirlande luminose da un marciapiede all’altro, degli abeti dorati o argentati, degli alberi di Natale negli stand […] Si domandava cosa avrebbe potuto regalare a M.me Maigret visto che non trovava niente» (Maigret e il produttore di vino) 

«era poco  meno di mezzanotte quando erano rientrati, e non avevavo affatto dovuto attendere per scambiarsi i regali. Una pipa per lui, come sempre. Per lei l’ultimo modello di una caffettiera elettrica che lei desiderava molto e infine, per rispettare la tradizione, una dozzina di fazzoletti finemente ricamati (Un Natale per Maigret)

Three Christmas investigations 

We find in the saga only two investigations that are taking place in December. Maybe because it's a calmer period, and people, waiting for Christmas truce, are less induced to commit crimes?! Or maybe it's Simenon himself who was reluctant to make his Chief Inspector work during that period… Anyway, for good measure we've added, to those two investigations, a short story that is also taking place around Christmas, and in which Maigret doesn't appear, yet it could very well belong to the saga, with some arrangement…

"there were light garlands from a sidewalk to the other, golden or silvery fir trees, Christmas trees in displays. […] He wondered what he would offer to Mme Maigret but he didn’t find anything." (Maigret and the Wine Merchant)

"it was a little less before midnight when they came back, and they didn't wait for long to give their presents. A pipe for him, as usual. For her, an electric coffeemaker of a sophisticated model she wanted, and, to stay true to tradition, a dozen finely embroidered handkerchiefs." (Maigret's Christmas)
