Maigret et le client du samedi originally appeared in 1962. It came out in English translation as Maigret and the Saturday Caller in 1964 with six subsequent reprints through 2003. The translator then was Tony White, and the translator for this newly entitled Penguin edition is Sian Reynolds.
The original work was the 87th in Simenon’s order of publication, and this work is the 59th in Penguin’s modern series of translations.
This mystery presents the unique problem of a strange man emerging from an overt ménage à trois setting on Saturdays to inform Maigret about his plan to kill his wife and her lover. Maigret initiates an informal plan of action until unanticipated events force him to investigate the case formally as Chief Inspector.
