Maigret's clothing in the movies and on television 

• Le pyiama

Dans ses Mémoires, Maigret raconte que Simenon décida que, dans les scènes où le commissaire serait dans son lit, il lui ferait porter une chemise de nuit, et non un pyjama. En réalité, dans les romans, Maigret porte parfois une chemise de nuit, mais parfois aussi un pyjama. Dans les adaptations, on trouve quelques scènes où les acteurs sont en pyjama.  

• Il pigiama

Nelle sue Memorie, Maigret racconta che Simenon, nelle scene dove il commissario era a letto, aveva deciso di fargli indossare una camicia da notte, e non un pigiama. Anzi negli romanzi Maigret indossa a volte un camicia da notte ma anche a volte un pigiama. Negli adattamenti si trova alcune scene dove gli attori indossano un pigiama.  

• Pyiamas

In his Memoirs Maigret told that Simenon had decided that in scenes where the Chief Inspector was in his bed, the novelist would like him to wear a nightshirt and no pyjamas. Actually in the novels Maigret sometimes wore a nightshirt, but also sometimes pyjamas. In the adaptations, we find some scenes in which actors wore pyjamas. 

C'est surtout dans les séries télévisées que Maigret apparaît en pyjama. Pour ce qui est des adaptations cinématographiques, nous n'avons trouvé que ces deux scènes: la première se trouve dans le film Brelan d'as, où Michel Simon joue Maigret dans l'adaptation de Le Témoignage de l'enfant de chœur. Quant à la seconde, si Maigret (alias Gabin) n'y est pas tout à fait en pyjama, sa «tenue d'intérieur» s'en rapproche tout de même, et nous ne pouvons résister au plaisir de vous montrer cette scène pleine d'humour… 

È soprattutto nelle serie televisive che Maigret appare con un pigiama. Negli adattamenti cinematografici abbiamo trovato solo queste due scene: la prima si trova nel film Brelan d'as, dove Michel Simon interpreta Maigret nel'adattamento di Le Témoignage de l'enfant de chœur. Nella seconda scena Maigret (ovvero Gabin) non è proprio col pigiama, però il suo "abito di interno" assomiglia un pigiama, e non possiamo resistere al piacere di mostrarvi questa scena umoristica... 

In fact it was mostly in TV series that Maigret appeared wearing pyjamas. As for the cinema adaptations, we found but two scenes: the first one is in the film Brelan d'as, where Michel Simon was playing Maigret in the adaptation of Le Témoignage de l'enfant de chœur. In the second scene, Maigret (alias Gabin) was not really wearing pyjamas, yet his "indoor attire" was quite near from pyjamas; and we couldn't resist to the pleasure of showing you this humorous scene…

Ainsi se termine notre petit tour 

dans la garde-robe de Maigret. 

Nous pensons que ce coup d'œil sur l'habillement du commissaire nous 

en apprend beaucoup sur lui, 

et reflète la façon dont les réalisateurs 

et les scénaristes envisagent 

le personnage. 

Le costume de Maigret, à la fois daté 

et intemporel, est en quelque 

sorte une «marque de fabrique» 

qui permet de le reconnaître, 

et de donner davantage 

d'authenticité 

à ces adaptations.  

Così si conclude il nostro piccolo giro nel guardaroba di Maigret. Crediamo che questa occhiata agli abiti del Commissario ci dice molto su di lui, e riflette il modo in cui registi e scrittori vedono il personaggio. Il vestito di Maigret, entrambi datato e senza tempo, è una sorta di "marchio di fabbrica" che ci permette di riconoscerlo, e di dare più autenticità a questi adattamenti. 

Thus this is the end of our little tour in Maigret's wardrobe. We think that this glimpse at the Chief Inspector's clothing tells much about him, and reflects the way in which directors and scriptwriters consider the character. Maigret's clothing, both dated and timeless, is a kind of "trademark" that allows to recognize him and to give more authenticity to these adaptations.
