SIMENON SIMENON. PORTRAIT DE MAIGRET 

Maigret vu par Simenon, extraits d'interviews 

Après le retour de Simenon en Europe, et son installation en Suisse, c'est la consécration définitive: le romancier donnera de très nombreuses interviews, dans les journaux, mais aussi à la radio, puis à la télévision. Les "émissions Simenon" deviennent un "must" dans le paysage audiovisuel. Une des plus célèbres de ces interviews télévisées est celle diffusée en 1963 sur la chaîne française: Simenon y répond aux questions de Roger Stéphane. Celui-ci demande au romancier de lui décrire le commissaire.

"Maigret n'est pas un homme intelligent. C'est un intuitif. […] dans les tout premiers romans, il avait presque l'air bovin. C'était un type énorme, un peu pachyderme, qui se promenait, qui reniflait, qui tâtonnait et il a continué comme cela d'ailleurs plus ou moins. […] Autrement dit, un homme très ordinaire en apparence, d'une intelligence ordinaire aussi, d'une culture moyenne, mais qui sait renifler les gens, renifler l'intérieur des gens."

Dopo il ritorno di Simenon in Europa, e la sua sistemazione in Svizzera, avviene la sua consacrazione definitiva: il romanziere concederà numerose interviste ai giornali, ma anche alla radio e poi anche alla televisione. Le «trasmissioni Simenon» diventano un «must»  nel panorama radio-televisivo. Una delle più celebri interviste televisive è quella diffusa nel 1963 dall’emittente televisiva francese: Simenon risponde alle domande di Roger Stéphane. Questo domanda al romanziere di descrivere il commissario. 

«Maigret non è un uomo intelligente. E’ un intuivo. […], nei primissimi romanzi aveva un’aria quasi bovina. Era un tipo pachidermico, che camminava, sbuffava, andava avanti a tentativi e del resto ha più o meno continuato così. […] Per dirla in altro modo, un uomo molto ordinario in apparenza, di un’intelligenza normale, di cultura media ma che sa fiutare le persone, fiutare all’interno delle persone».

After Simenon's return to Europe, and his settlement in Switzerland, the definitive consecration would come: the novelist would give many interviews, in newspapers, and also for radio and television. "Simenon programs" became a "must" in the audiovisual landscape. One of the most famous interviews was the one broadcast in 1963 on the French channel. Simenon answered Roger Stephane's questions. Stephane asked the novelist to describe the Chief Inspector.  

"Maigret isn't a clever man. He's intuitive […] in the first novel he seemed almost bovine. He was an enormous, pachyderm guy, who was walking around, sniffing, groping, and he more or less went on this way. […] In other words, an apparently very ordinary man, of an ordinary intelligence too, of an average culture, but who knows how to sniff people, to sniff the inside of people."
