SIMENON SIMENON.

On October 14th, 1967 Maigret disembarks on the French viewers' small screen. After an English series and an Italian one, Simenon had sold the adaptation rights of his novels to the ORTF. In the newspaper Télé7 jours of that week, a report presented the meeting between Simenon and Jean Richard, who would play Maigret. It was an opportunity for the novelist to tell once more what his point of view about the Chief Inspector was. "When he arrives somewhere, he has to immerse himself in the place. He tries the armchair to see what the suspect sees every day. He gets acquainted with objects. Maigret isn't Sherlock Holmes, he doesn't seek anything. You have to play him at a slow pace for he has no genius ideas. Maigret should not be keen. His thought acts only slowly because it acts by intuition."
