Maigret and the Tall Woman, Penguin’s English translation of Simenon’s Maigret et la grande perche, will be available through Amazon.uk as of December 1, 2016. Both paperback and Kindle editions are expected. Preorder options already exist, so one does not have to wait to get onboard.

The opportunity for delivery to the USA and Canada will appeal to some because neither the paperback nor the Kindle editions will be available through either country’s Amazon facility until July 4, 2017.

In contrast, December 1, 2016 is the release date for the following other Amazon sources: Australia Kindle; France Kindle; Germany Kindle; Italy paperback and Kindle; Netherlands Kindle; Spain Kindle.

Maigret et la grande perche originally appeared in 1951, but the English translation Maigret and the Burglar’s Wife did not first appear until 1955. Its translator was J. Maclaren-Ross then, and now the translator is David Watson.

This work was the 66th in Simenon’s original order of publication and is the 38th in Penguin’s modern series of translations. 

This book appealed to me for these features in particular: the reported bloody body that triggers the investigation is missing when the police show up. Shooting and poisoning issues affect seven characters in one way or another. Maigret deals with four potential liars. Maigret displays his medical knowledge. Justice rules.
