Commentaire Pour beaucoup de cinéphiles simenoniens, l'interprétation de Pierre Renoir en Maigret reste une référence. Alors que le roman se passe, à part les scènes de nuit, sous un doux soleil d'avril, Renoir, dans son film, a mis l'accent sur une ambiance à la fois nocturne et brumeuse, accentuée par le noir et blanc. On peut d'ailleurs penser que ce film n'est pas étranger à la fameuse atmosphère, pleine de pluie et de brouillard, dont on a taxé l'œuvre de Simenon…
Le personnage d'Else est un beau rôle pour une actrice, mais il n'est pas facile à interpréter. Il faut trouver le ton juste entre la vamp et la femme fragile qui doit être assez séduisante pour s'attirer les bonnes grâces de Maigret. Sa première apparition doit "sonner juste" à l'écran, en se conformant au mieux à la description qui en est faite dans le roman: "Elle s'avançait comme la vedette d'un film ou, mieux, comme la femme idéale d'un rêve d'adolescent." L'interprétation de Winna Winfried dans le film marqua les esprits, et celle de Sunnyi Melles dans la série avec Crémer est tout à fait remarquable.
Commento: Per molti cinefili simenoniani, l’interpretazione di Pierre Renoir nei panni di Maigret costituisce un punto di riferimento. Mentre il romanzo si svolge, a parte le scene notturne, sotto un dolce sole di aprile, Renoir nel film mette l’accento su un’atmosfera tra il notturno e nebbiosa, accentuata dal bianco/nero. Si potrebbe pensare che questo film non sia estraneo alla famosa atmosfera, piena di pioggia e di nebbia di cui si classifica l’opera di Simenon….
Il personaggio di Elsa costituisce un bel ruolo per un attrice, ma non facile da interpretare. Occorre trovare il tono giusto tra la vamp e la donna fragile che però deve essere abbastanza seducente tanto da attirare le attenzioni di Maigret. La sua prima apparizione sullo schermo deve essere “giusta”, adattandosi quanto più possibile alla descrizione fatta nel romanzo: “Lei avanzava come la star di un film o, meglio come la donna ideale dei sogni di un adolescente.” L’interpretazione di Winna Winfried nel film colpì gli spettatori, e quella di Sunnyi Melles nella serie con Crémer é del tutto rimarchevole.
Comment For many Simenonian cinephiles, Pierre Renoir's interpretation as Maigret remains a reference. While the novel is taking place, except for night scenes, in a mild April sun, in his film Renoir focused on a nocturnal and misty ambience, enhanced by black and white filming. We can even think that this film played its part in the famous rainy and foggy atmosphere of which so many people said it was Simenon's works main aspect…
Else's character is a beautiful role for an actress, yet it's not so easy to play. You have to strike the right note between the vamp and the fragile woman, who has to be attractive enough to curry Maigret's favor. Her first appearance must "sound right" on the screen, by conforming best to the description made in the novel: "She was coming forward as a movie star, or better as the ideal woman in a teenager dream." Winna Winfried's interpretation in the film made an impression, and Sunnyi Melles' in the Crémer series is quite outstanding.
