Note: The paperback does not appear to be forthcoming through Amazon sites in Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, or Spain Maigret à Vichy originally appeared in 1968. The first English translation came out as Maigret in Vichy in 1969. Eleven subsequent editions followed through 1996, some being entitled Maigret Takes the Waters. The translator for all was Eileen Ellenbogen, and the translator for this new Penguin edition is Ros Schwartz.
Be aware the ISBN-13 for this most recent edition is 978-0241304211, which should facilitate searching for this exact book from various other sources.
The original work was the 95th in Simenon’s order of publication, and this work is the 68th in Penguin’s modern series of translations.
This novel is intriguing because Simenon takes Maigret out of Paris and puts him in the unique environment of a health sanatorium to dry out. There, he works on a murder case in an atypical unofficial capacity, and Madame Maigret is at his side 24/7, helping him to sort things out. It provides a great opportunity to observe the couple interacting.
