Anticipazioni sulla prossima traduzione della Penguin per gli anglofoni
Maigret’s Revolver, Penguin’s English translation of Simenon’s Le Revolver de Maigret, will be available through Amazon.uk as of February 2, 2017. Both paperback and Kindle editions are expected. A preorder option exists for the paperback, so one does not have to wait to get onboard.
The opportunity for delivery to the USA and Canada will appeal to some because neither the paperback nor the Kindle editions will be available through either country’s Amazon facility until September 5, 2017.
In contrast, February 2, 2017 holds as the release date for the following other Amazon sources: Australia Kindle; Brazil Kindle; France Kindle; Germany Kindle; India Kindle; Italy paperback and Kindle; Mexico Kindle; Netherlands Kindle; Spain paperback and Kindle.
Unfortunately, the later September 5, 2017 release date pertains to these remaining Amazon sources: China paperback; France paperback; Germany paperback; Japan paperback and Kindle; Mexico paperback.
Be aware the ISBN-13 for this new edition is 978-0241277430, which should facilitate searching for the book from various other sources.
An audio version from Audible.com is not yet visible on the horizon.
Le Revolver de Maigret originally appeared in 1952. The English translation Maigret’s Revolver did not first appear until 1956, but there have been seven subsequent re-editions. Its translator was Nigel Ryan then, and now the translator is Sian Reynolds.
The original work was the 68th in Simenon’s order of publication, and this work is the 40th in Penguin’s modern series of translations.
This book appealed to me for these features in particular: there’s a good dinner scene with the Maigrets and Pardons. In fact, Dr. Pardon plays a role in the investigation. Maigret pursues the case outside of France. Inspector Pyke, the Englishman who played a big role in My Friend Maigret, resurfaces. Maigret disparages his wife's concerns about his gun being stolen, but the thief earns considerable humanity.
